My husband and I recently attended the coolest event. On a rare date night at the end of the summer, we went to a showing of ‘Grease’ sing along movie at the Alabama Theater in downtown Birmingham. The song lyrics are included on the screen so the audience can sing along. I’ve seen ‘Grease’ at least 20 times but never at a theater – and never with 100s of people who love the movie as much as I do. The air was electric.

An event at the Alabama Theater is always a treat. The restoration of this historic venue has returned the establishment back to its glamorous origins. Wander through and notice the details of the wall coverings, fixtures and features. The theater is like a museum of 1920’s historical opulence. Even the ladies room on the ground floor is a decorative parlor – part sitting room, part lounge. When you go, climb the stairs to the top balcony (yes, there is more than one) to the tip top, row Y. Even up in the nosebleed section you get a clear view of the stage. You can best appreciate the grandeur of the building with a bird’s eye view.
